If you are a member of a trade union, then you might also want to make a connection with a special interest organization with people who can help you promote your own ideas so that you can influence local and national government to make laws that will have a generally positive effect on your group. Some organizations charge membership dues to their members, so you should be certain to ask if they expect some sort of monetary contribution before you are pressured to join. If they charge dues, then you should ask them what types of benefits they can offer you. Some have connections that will not only help you meet new people but can also get you discounts at hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and other locations that you might want to visit.
